Review General Assembly and Aerospace Event

Roland Hengartner welcomed the 60 present members and opened thereby the official part of the event: the General Assembly. 2017 was a successful year, which is reflected in the financial statement and the steadily growing number of members. This day, the Cluster counts 105 members (June 2018). Further achieved milestones of the past year were the newly established event-series called “SAC-Talks”, the strategic market opening through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai South as well as international partner events and the formed partnerships with other Clusters.

After the formal part, Roland Hengartner and Oliver Wunderlin, CEO of the hosting BWB-Group, welcomed also other aerospace-interested guests to the unofficial Aerospace-Event. It started with an overview of the SAC-network and its advantages by Dr. Andreas Wittmer, Co-President of the SAC and CEO of the Center for Aviation Competence of the University of St. Gallen (CFAC-HSG). The next speech of a research group of the University of St. Gallen linked thereon by giving an overview of the Swiss aerospace industry and the relevance of digitalization for this field. Thereby, they referred also to the publication «Schweizer Luft- und Raumfahrt» of Roland Keller, Rédacteur en chef der Swiss Engineering RTS which was published in cooperation with the SAC and Kömedia. The next speech was about the logistics of SME’s in aviation and its potential. This speech was held by Werner Bossard, Manager Aerospace, Defense and Logistics Projects of Schenker Schweiz AG. The SAC will be oriented also in future internationally and accessing the Asian market is crucial. For this reason, the following speech held by Roland Hengartner, was about past and future activities of the SAC in China, whereby he discussed the opportunities and risks of this market. The last speaker was Stefan Buckenmaier, founder and space-expert of next!. The SAC wants to intense its activities in the field of space through partnerships with ESA BIC, the Swiss Space Center and other companies. At the end of June there will take place a SAC-Talk about Space at the Innovationspark Dübendorf.

The speeches provided new insights which were vividly discussed by the participants at the subsequent Networking-Apéro and at the company tour of BWB-Betschart AG. And now, we are already excited to see which milestones will be achieved in 2018.
