Next era in aviation after piston and jet engine will be the electric motor. In 2016 smartflyer started development of the serial hybrid powertrain. The SFX1 is the prototype to prove the performance of the electric drive with the configuration optimised for it. The first flight is planned for the end of 2023. The electric aircraft will then be certified and produced in series. As a training aircraft or private means of air transport, the electric powertrain is cheaper and produces fewer emissions overall.
