The Space Biology Group is a leading research unit specialized in conducting bio-medical and biotechnological research in the context of space medicine or mechanobiological dysfunction on Earth. Experiments carried out under simulated or actual microgravity as well as under terrestrial conditions address important questions concerning biological mechanisms of mechano-transduction.
In addition, the Space Biology Group maintains a BIOTESC center as part of the ESA User Support and Operations Center. Task of the center include providing the necessary infrastructure and support to scientists conducting biological experiments in the European Space Laboratory “COLUMBUS”.
